How to Improve Your Writing – Start by Trying

How to Write Better

The blogging community is one awesome community! The one thing that really, really excites me is that I get to meet so many awesome people, like Ethan, for example. I “met” Ethan in a Facebook group for blogs and biz owners and I was very excited when he asked me if he could do a guest blog post for Glamorous Glitter.

So, allow me to introduce you to Ethan’s awesome post:

HOW TO WRITE WITH CREATIVE FLAIR –

EVEN IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU CAN’T

The other day I literally could not think. My brain was stuck. My creative flow was not happening. It’s almost like when you are writing a math test, and you completely forget the formula or equation to the question. Thus, you probably doodle OR make a silly guess.

Yet this is similar to when you meet someone at a party that you met years ago, and yes, you completely forgot their name. So you call them by a random name instead like, “Hey Girl” or “Hey Good lookin”.

Though, the uniqueness of our brain “blanking out” is that we are able to always work around it.

“WE ARE ABLE TO ALWAYS WORK AROUND IT.”

Huh? You probably think this is dumb.

Though it’s true! Our brain actually does not completely blank out. Our brain is a lot more creative and versatile than we suspect. When we can’t think in one area, our brain is compensating this by using different sections of our brain. Even though this may get us in trouble, our brain is actually trying to aid us.

Now relating this to the title, “ How to write with a creative flair- Even if you feel like you can’t” is much easier than you think. Did you understand the concept I was just talking about?

HOW OUR BRAIN WORKS.

Think of it this way. Let’s use the A, B, C’s as an example.”A” being the beginning and “C” for the destination. If “B” is what you are looking for and it’s not there after the “A” (for some odd reason) you will just go to the next. This is what our brain seems to do. It will just jump. It’s still following the sequence, just not entirely.

“IT WILL JUST JUMP. IT’S STILL FOLLOWING THE SEQUENCE, JUST NOT ENTIRELY.”

Now, this example is going to show you how to effectively write with creative flair.

WHAT IS CREATIVE FLAIR?

There is no distinct definition, but in this case; it’s writing with very different and engaging content with a unique twist. Offering a different solution than most. This is where most people stump on, but you don’t need to! Embrace it.

FOR EXAMPLE:

A fun title could be: How to get a boyfriend. To find content, you could try to offer a solution different than most. If you have an experience, use that.

If your brain is stuck, look at the end result, such as people with boyfriends. What do they do with their boyfriends? They go to movies and spend time together.

Now, add a solution; maybe people can meet their “true one” at the movies. Give them a challenge on how they can get a boyfriend by just going to the movies.

I know, this example might be “broad”, but this is getting to my point on how you can create content even if you don’t want to or if you can’t get that type of creative flair happening. Start asking yourself questions on the end result.

Now that you understand your brain will look for other ways to compensate for a certain situation, you need to learn to use it in weird and unique ways. Take this as an advantage for writing!

Kind of like that party we were talking about? Your brain did give a name to that individual, it was not the right name, but it was a name. Instead of using the recall skill, it used the observational skill. Get it?

HOW TO EFFECTIVELY USE THE BLANK SPACE

Here are some suggestions that I use to sharpen that blank space moment, which will help you too! Once you embrace these tips you will be more at ease on writing with flair.

THINK OF IT HAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT OUTCOME.

Once you accept it, you won’t feel reluctant to what your brain is trying to offer. That weird thought could be a hint your brain is offering you a cool concept! WRITE DOWN anything you are thinking of during that blank space moment! (Trust me, you are thinking of something else!)

ONCE IN AWHILE, FIND AN INTEREST OR A SKILL YOU DISLIKE! FOUND SOMETHING?

Good. Now, take that skill or interest and find a way for you to enjoy OR learn it. This helps expand your knowledge, and makes your brain look for more solutions!

READ. JUST READ ANYTHING YOU KNOW.

If you are stuck, the best way is to read journals, blogs OR the newspaper. You will see what others are writing that could be about your niche. OR it might give you a cool way to collaborate ideas. You can also check out google alerts. This shows the most current information.

When it’s time to write. Here are some steps to remember when you want to write with flair:

WRITE IN THE MORNING OR NIGHT TIME.

These are the best times to not have too many distractions and you can focus on yourself.

PLAN.

Many people blank out because they forget to distribute their time properly. If you plan, you are saving yourself a headache in the future. This includes time and that so-called blanking moment!

TAKE BREAKS.

Getting that burst of energy only lasts for so long. Just like coffee or energy drinks, they only last for a certain amount of time. That’s the same thing your creative flow. You will slowly feel that moment wearing off. A great schedule is writing for 45 minutes then taking a 15-minute break. Repeat as many times as you need.

RELOCATE.

When you are in the same environment, sometimes your ideas can’t expand. When you go to a different room, coffee shop or even the park; your surroundings help sharpen your mind and start fresh.

WHAT TO DO NEXT?

Once every two weeks, implement the three strategies I put together on how you can implement your blank space moment. This will help your creative mind come to action.

Lastly, try something new! You always get the best idea’s when are you adventurous and curious about life.

How about you? How do you get your creative flow going when you have a blank space moment?
